My dog died Saturday. Her name was Lady, she was an 11 and 1/2 year old yellow Labrador Retriever, a rescue from the Sacramento SPCA. She had been ill for a while, but her death was not expected. I had to have her put down.
I'm going to need a little time. Please excuse me if I don't post for a while.

I know this is belated (I just found your blog today), but please accept my condolences. Having to make that awful decision is probably the hardest part of sharing our lives with animal companions. When you are ready, please consider adopting another dog or cat--heck, adopt two! So many wonderful creatures and so few good homes. Bless you--
Thank you for your kind words. I'm not ready to adopt another dog (or two) yet, but when I do, it will definitely be a rescue. It's hard accepting that you will probably outlive your dog, but it makes you realize that you have to enjoy the time you have with your dog because dogs have no sense of their own mortality and they live in the moment. So should we all.
